Abstract

Divorce in India is a growing phenomenon, with increasing numbers of women seeking to dissolve marriages that no longer serve their well-being. However, the impact of divorce on women in India is profound, as they face emotional, social, and economic consequences that are often compounded by the country’s patriarchal structures. This study examines the diverse effects of divorce on women in the Indian context, addressing issues such as mental health, financial vulnerability, and societal stigmatization. It also highlights the legal hurdles and cultural challenges women encounter and the coping strategies they employ to rebuild their lives. The study calls for policy reforms and social support mechanisms to better support divorced women in India.
