A case report on primary intestinal lymphangiectasia (waldmann’s disease)
Abstract
Primary intestinal lymphangiectasiais a rare condition where the lymph vessels get dilated and pass into the small bowel lumen and responsible for the protein losing enteropathy leading to the three conditions lymphopenia, hypoalbuminemia, and hypogammaglobulinemia . This disease also called as waldmann’s disease .The etiological factor is unknown but as per research study it is caused by mutation of genes. Waldmann’s disease generally diagnosed to the children below 3 years. The symptoms include loose stools with a foul smell, weight loss , intake of food decreased while days are passing , malnutrition ,vomiting’s, edema due to dilation of lymph vessels , bones get soft and weak , growth retardation seen in children . Diagnosed with the endoscopy or video capsule endoscopy and with the protein levels in serum. The diet follows by the patients is medium chain triglycerides diet (MCT) which have high amount of MCT fat oils and having high protein supplements which are needed by the PIL patients.
